Benefits of Walking

Research has shown that walking is one of the best forms of exercise we can do.  While walking, the body enjoys an increased expenditure of energy and introduction of oxygen to every cell.  Walking is also a weight-bearing exercise that helps strengthen bones and improves posture.  With minimal requirements, walking is simple and free.  You don’t need to be fit or an athlete to gain from this exercise.

There are great and lasting benefits to spiritual walking as well.  God has a desire to walk with His perfect creation.  This is shown to us in Genesis 3:8 (NKJV): “And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day….”  Prior to the fall of man, God walked and talked face to face with Adam and Eve because He loved and enjoyed the fellowship with them.  Due to sin, man was separated from God.  However, when we make Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, we are brought into relationship with God.  Then, we too can walk with Him.  In John 8:12 (NIV), Jesus tells us, “I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
