A substitute teacher, flight attendant, firefighter, Zumba instructor, franchise sales broker, business owner…You must think I am talking about several different people. No, these jobs are just some of what this extraordinary Christian woman has done. As I sat talking with Neysa Smith in Your Weigh Yogurt Shoppe, I was amazed by the variety of jobs this mother of six has held in her lifetime and how God has moved in her life.
Neysa and her husband, Scott, met on a Christian website and were married within a month. They didn’t even date. “We knew God put us together,” recalls Neysa. “We are perfectly matched in business. I’m the marketing person and he is the finance guy and we work very well together. We have 6 kids and 6 grandbabies.”
Neysa and Scott have opened many businesses together over the past 11 years. Just some of these former businesses include a fitness center franchise, Tae Kwon Do schools, tanning salons, and a helicopter training school. Presently, they are owners of a telecommunications company and Your Weigh Yogurt Shoppe. Neysa is also an independent distributor of BSkinny Coffee by Boresha®. However, Neysa says, “I am a mom and wife first and foremost!”
For this couple, marriage and business is a great combination. What keeps their marriage and business relationship strong? When asked this question Neysa quickly r esponded, “God.” Ultimately, the Lord is what keeps them happily married and free from strife in their relationship. They have different personalities but Neysa explained, “We are just blended really well. We like working together. We like each other too, which makes a difference…. We like being together all of the time, and whatever we do, we do it together.” Since they have been married, they have always worked together in some capacity. Even when Neysa was a flight attendant or working other jobs, she helped her husband with their businesses. She worked various flexible jobs so she could be around her husband and children more. Neysa mentioned that when running a business it would be hard to find time to see your spouse unless you were doing it together. So, running the businesses together has allowed for Scott and Neysa to spend more time together. They really enjoy being partners in all their endeavors. It is very evident that God’s presence is in their relationship.
Your Weigh Yogurt Shoppe is Scott and Neysa’s newest adventure. “Frozen yogurt is very popular right now because people are looking for treats that are healthy,” says Neysa. “It’s very difficult to do that with ice cream. We’re always going to like ice cream, so why not have a healthy alternative.”
Your Weigh yogurt is “low calorie, low fat, and tastes like ice cream.” Now…that is just the yogurt. They have no control over all the cookie dough, candy, or sprinkles that you pile on top! They offer 8 different flavors of yogurt and some of the flavors are changed out periodically. In the future, Your Weigh Yogurt Shoppe plans on carrying some sugar-free flavors (with artificial sweeteners) for those who cannot have sugar. Neysa explained, “We are evolving to cater to all of the customers.”

“When people come in, we always let them know that we sell frozen yogurt, which is much healthier than ice cream because it’s lower calorie and contains live and active cultures. We tell them that it is a self-serve concept.” “You swirl it, you decorate it with your own toppings, and you weigh it at the end,” explains Neysa. “And you pay by the ounce (it is 59¢ per ounce). So you can mix and match. You can get a little or you can get a lot. It is kind of fun…. You can put on whatever toppings you want. You can really get creative.”
The great thing about Your Weigh yogurt is it is a fraction of the calories compared to other frozen treats. Also, the treats from other shops can cost more per ounce, but people may not realize it because it is portioned and sold for a flat rate.
Your Weigh yogurt is self-serve so the more you put in your cup, the more you pay. Neysa explained, “I always tell them ‘by the ounce is a different way to shop, so don’t pack it in unless you want to eat a lot’.” The cups are fairly large so “if you pack it in and add all the toppings, it could weigh more than you think.” Neysa and Scott would rather their customers know in advance than be shocked at the end when they have a treat that weighs a pound. That is a lot of yogurt and yummy toppings!
The self-serve feature makes this yogurt shop different from many others. Neysa questioned, “When have you ever heard that you can serve yourself?” “So you have the control of how much you eat and how much you pay.” They had one lady come in the shop for 1 ounce of yogurt and she happily paid 59¢.” People seem to like having the control.
The smoothies work a little differently. They are one price, $5.00 for 24 oz. “We give them a cup and they put whatever toppings they want in that cup and fill it up. They pick out up to 2 flavors of yogurt and we get it in liquid form and make it for them. So it is kind of fun. Some crazy things come out of here. I had a guy put all these cherries in his cup with the stems and I thought…oh my gosh…but it tasted delicious. You could taste the stem flavor, but because it was so chopped up, it was really good. I was shocked. And I’ve even come up with some really cool coffee smoothies that taste like chocolate coffee that are under 100 calories. So you can really get creative.”
Neysa’s favorite thing about running this yogurt shop, besides working along side her husband, is the people (especially the children). She loves children. “It’s a cool business to see these kids get excited about making their own yogurt; it’s really neat.” Neysa remarks, “Even a child can be empowered to make a decision and get what they want and not have to buy a $5.00 yogurt if they don’t want to.” They get to make their own creation and determine the amount they get. About half of their customers are children pulling their parents in to try it. From small children to teenagers, they seem to really enjoy it.
